Alta Dog Sledding: A Hands-On Arctic Adventure

Alta is surrounded by Arctic wilderness, making it a natural starting point for a hands-on dog sledding adventure. This isn't a passenger ride: after a safety briefing at Gargia Lodge, you learn to handle the sled and work with your own husky team before heading into Gargia Valley's pine forest and frozen terrain. Group sizes stay small, from 2 to 8 guests, so your guide can give everyone proper instruction and attention.

Once you're moving, the huskies lead you through around 60 minutes of forest trail and open winter landscape while you handle the sled yourself. Afterwards, you return to historic Gargia Lodge to warm up with lunch, coffee, and tea, while your guides share stories about dog sledding and the history of the area.
