Tour Highlights

Forest Trails by Bike
Canoeing on the Raundal River
Everything Coordinated
Land and Water in One Day

Start your day with a guided mountain biking tour through the forests and open landscapes around Voss. You'll ride flowing singletrack, climb through dense woodland, and descend into open meadows while taking in views of the surrounding valleys and mountains. The route is designed to be approachable for beginners while still giving more experienced riders plenty to enjoy. Your guide adjusts the pace and terrain to suit the group, and e-bike assistance helps make steeper climbs more manageable.

After the morning ride, continue your adventure on the Raundal River. Your guide takes you through a changing mix of calm pools and Class I-II rapids, surrounded by forest, large boulders, and clear mountain water. You'll work together in the canoe through the more active sections, then slow down as the river opens into quieter stretches. The experience gives you a completely different perspective on the same Voss landscape you explored from the trails earlier in the day.

Designed for Riders Who Love Big Mountain Adventures

The Backyard combines both activities into one organised itinerary, so there is no need to arrange separate mountain biking and canoeing tours. Your guide team coordinates the schedule, equipment, and transport between activities, with one check-in at Outdoor Base in Voss. After the morning ride, you have time to rest, eat, and refill your water before continuing to the river. The result is a full day of adventure without the hassle of managing multiple bookings, operators, or departure times.

The real appeal of The Backyard is the variety. In the morning, you're moving through forests and mountain terrain by bike. In the afternoon, you're navigating the river and seeing the landscape from water level. The contrast between riding and paddling, forest and river, and active trails and flowing water makes the day feel varied from start to finish. By the end of the tour, you've experienced two very different sides of Voss in a single guided adventure.

Morning: Mountain Biking Tour

Check in at our Outdoor Base in Voss at 9:50 AM. After gear setup and a bike fit, your guide leads you through forest trails with views of the surrounding valleys. You'll ride mixed terrain, climbing through dense forest, descending into open meadows, and navigating flowing singletrack. No prior experience is needed, as guides adjust the pace and terrain to suit your group's ability, while e-bike assistance makes the steeper climbs more manageable. After the ride, return to Outdoor Base to rest, eat, and refill your water before the next activity.

A shuttle takes you to the river. You'll paddle inflatable canoes through a mix of calm pools and Class I-II rapids. The river winds through Scandinavian forest, clear water, the sound of moving current around you. Work together through the rapids, then drift and float through quieter sections to recover.

Still Have Questions?

Do I need prior biking or canoeing experience?

No. Most guests are first-timers. Guides teach technique before each activity and guide you throughout the day.

How physically fit do I need to be?

Moderate fitness helps with a full day of mixed activities. E-bike assistance and guided pacing make it accessible for most people in good health. If you have specific concerns, check with your doctor beforehand.

What happens in bad weather?

Both activities go ahead in rain or shine. You're already around water, and rain makes trails more technical but still rideable. Dress appropriately and we'll adjust pacing if needed.

What happens if I fall off the bike or tip into the canoe?

Before each activity, your guide explains water safety, rescue techniques, and what to do if you fall in. Everyone wears a personal flotation device during canoeing. Most people who end up in the water find it becomes one of their best memories from the day.

Can I bring my own bike gear or pedals?

Yes. Our bikes have standard flat pedals, but we also have clip-in SPD and Crankbrothers options. If you bring your own pedals, saddle, gloves, or helmet, let us know in advance and we'll make the swaps at check-in.

Do I need to sign a waiver?

Yes. You'll read and sign a waiver acknowledging the activity's risks before you start. Parents/guardians sign for minors.

Can I leave my bag at the base?

Yes. We have shelves for belongings. A staff member is always present at the base.
