Only have one day in Voss? Don't worry. you can still experience why this small mountain town has earned its reputation as Norway's adventure capital.

Surrounded by fjords, waterfalls, rivers, forests, and mountains, our hometown of Voss packs an incredible variety of experiences within a surprisingly compact area.
Travelling on the Bergen Railway, driving through Fjord Norway, or adding Voss to a longer Norway itinerary? One well-planned day is enough to get a good sample of what we have to offer here.
Here's how we'd spend the perfect day in Voss.
Morning: Start with the Voss Gondola

The best way to begin your day? Heading straight up!
The Voss Gondola takes you from the train station to Mount Hanguren in less than ten minutes. Nothing beats a morning coffee with panoramic views across Voss, Lake Vangsvatnet, and the surrounding mountains!
If you're visiting during summer, you'll find several hiking trails that begin directly from the gondola station. Even a short walk will net you big views with no need for a an all-day commitment.
If you'd rather take things slowly, simply enjoy the scenery from the top before returning to town.
Mid-Morning: Visit Bordalsgjelet Gorge

Back in the centre of Voss, we always recommend taking a short walk to Bordalsgjelet Gorge.
Hidden just outside town, our dramatic canyon was carved by glacial meltwater thousands of years ago. Wooden walkways wind through the narrow gorge as waterfalls cascade between moss-covered cliffs.
Unlike many of Norway's natural attractions, Bordalsgjelet requires very little planning and no long drive. It's one of the easiest places to visit if you're short on time.
Plan to spend around an hour here before continuing your day.
Lunch in Voss

Voss has plenty of cosy cafés and restaurants that will serve you local produce, fresh baked goods, and traditional Norwegian dishes.
Take some time to relax before the afternoon's adventure. You'll need the energy.
Afternoon: Choose Your Adventure!
This is where Voss really becomes Voss.
Instead of simply looking at Norway's landscapes, you can experience them. Head-first.
Depending on your interests, there are several fantastic options.
Option 1: Whitewater Rafting

The Raundal River is one of Norway's premier rafting rivers.
Go with a professional guide and let them lead you through exciting rapids surrounded by untouched mountain scenery. You'll quickly learn why whitewater rafting is one of the most popular summer activities in Voss.
No previous experience is necessary, and all equipment is provided.
Option 2: Fjord Kayaking

If you'd prefer a slower pace, head to nearby Gudvangen and join a sea kayak tour on the UNESCO-listed Nærøyfjord.
Here, among the towering cliffs, waterfalls, and peaceful waters, you'll find Norway's most memorable kayaking experience.
It's also one of the best ways to experience the fjords away from the larger cruise boats.
Option 3: Mountain Biking

Voss offers fantastic mountain biking, no matter your skill and fitness level.
Ride quiet forest roads, flowing trails, and scenic valleys while discovering parts of the region that many visitors never see.
Guided tours are a good pick if you're short on time. You'll get the local knowledge, and the pros will be taking care of logistics and equipment.
Late Afternoon: Visit a Waterfall

No visit to Western Norway feels complete without seeing at least one waterfall.
If you're travelling by car, Tvindefossen is only a short drive from Voss and is one of the easiest waterfalls to visit in the region.
Another excellent option is Skjervsfossen, where dramatic twin waterfalls tumble through a narrow gorge and modern viewing platforms offer fantastic photo opportunities.
Both can easily fit into a one-day itinerary.
Evening: Relax Beside Lake Vangsvatnet
Before leaving Voss, slow things down beside Lake Vangsvatnet.
In summer, you can see the locals gather along the waterfront to swim, paddleboard, or simply enjoy the evening sun reflecting off the surrounding mountains.
It's the perfect place to end a busy day before continuing your journey through Fjord Norway.
So, can You See Voss in One Day?
Absolutely!
While you could easily spend several days hiking, rafting, kayaking, cycling, and exploring the surrounding fjords, one day is enough to get a sense of what makes Voss so special.
If you combine one outdoor activity with a few scenic stops, you'll leave with a genuine taste of Norway's adventure capital rather than simply passing through it.
If you have extra time, consider staying two or three nights to explore nearby highlights such as the UNESCO-listed Nærøyfjord, Hardangerfjord, and some of Western Norway's best hiking trails.
